Those who are in grades 4 - 8 are welcome to participate in this curriculum each week. The class views an episode of the Twilight Zone, and then participates in discussion and values voting around the day's topic. Below you will find the schedule of episodes, the date they will be viewed, and a brief synopsis of the episode. Any questions or concerns about the episodes should be shared with our Director of Religious Education, Anna Paquette.

11/25/18 - The Shelter

​

Theme: Nuclear War

​

Dr. Bill Stockton is at home, enjoying a birthday party, attended by his family and neighbors. They toast his service to the community and joke about his hobby, building a bomb shelter, which the guests find completely unnecessary. Suddenly, the emergency broadcast system alerts the partygoers that there are two unidentified objects, possibly missiles, headed toward the United States, and everyone is advised to seek shelter in their basements or bomb shelters.

Bill's panicked neighbors all head to their homes to prepare, and he takes his family into their shelter. Soon, his neighbors start to return, one by one, seeking to be admitted to the shelter. The doctor refuses them entrance, explaining there's only enough in the way of supplies for his family. 

​

The friends and neighbors who were so friendly earlier, now become hysterical and demanding. This results in an outpouring of hostility, racism, and other previously suppressed emotions. They become a mob and improvise a battering ram to break down the door of the shelter. As they enter the shelter by force, it is announced that the two objects are satellites and no threat is present.

Theme: Visitors from outer space, Speciesism   

​

As the episode begins, a man is laying on a cot inside of what appears to be a spaceship, while a voice instructs him over a speaker to eat. He tells his story in flashback.
